Posted in: Community, Theology
One of the things that really resonates with me is the Tinitarian shape of community. In other words, Christian community is based in the triune nature of God who has always existed in community as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The community that we have with one another is rooted in and to be modeled after the community that exists within the Godhead. This provides such a profound and stirring impetus for Christian community. We do not merely have Christian community because we need it (though we do), or because it is the right thing for the church to do (though it is), but because it is in us as image-bearers!
In this understanding Christian community is grounded as being Theocentric (centered on God) and not anthropocentric (centered on man). This makes community so much more desirous to me as an activity. It is about God and our being patterned after His image that moves us to being together; as opposed to us and our needs. Fun.
