If you know me, you know how much I love to read. I am always finding new treasures…yesterday, I finished a book called The Holy Spirit is Not for Sale by Grady… a great critique on Pentecostalism and Christian leaders in general.

Holy Spirit Is Not for Sale, The: Rekindling the Power of God in an Age of Compromise
My staff is helping me update the library of books I have read (Click Books, then Britt’s Books on the menu at the top of this page), and I thought it would be helpful to share some general thoughts on how I read as we work on these updates.
Study Tips
Because I view books as tools and reference works I take copious notes in them while I read. You know, like congruent thoughts I am having or revelations or cross references to Scripture or whatever. I also use tabs to keep track of topics, quotes, thoughts, points, or facts that I may want to refer to later. I do this with everything I read. It really slows the reading down, but it makes the book a more effective tool in the future. Let’s say I am preparing a message on prayer and I remember something Charles Spurgeon said in Lectures to My Students (a must read for ministers on the subject). If it was profound enough for me to remember later then I for sure marked and labeled it with a tab while reading. So I can go to my shelf and pull down that book and voila! There it is. No time wasted and the tool has been used most effectively. It is so important to read good Christian books and to use them effectively to the Glory of King Jesus!
