When the Lord called me and some others to start Reality Carpinteria back in 2003 I was deeply involved in the family surfboard business at the time, Channel Islands Surfboards. All I ever wanted to do with my life was make surfboards. In the decade before starting Reality I lived, dreamed, ate and drank surfing and surfboards. I never wanted to be a pastor, church planter, preacher, author, etc. These things pursued me relentlessly and try as I may it was hopeless, I might as well be in a whale’s belly–this thing was only going one place. That isn’t to say I am sad or being spit up on the beach, I’m not, but I did miss making surfboards. I shaped my last board 7 years ago the week before the church started… I made my comeback yesterday!
